Completed to a very high standard, this exceptional 1971 Falcon XY GT replica started life as a Falcon 500 built for the NSW Police Force in December 1971 and a verification letter supplied by Ford confirms the car was factory optioned with the K-code 351 2V V8 engine and T-Bar Cruise-O-Matic transmission. Finished in Cruise Blue with black trim and retailed through Wright Ford of Sydney, the Falcon came with numerous options including power disc brakes, tinted windscreen, adjustable front bucket seats, sports console, a limited slip differential, dual exhaust system, Police Kit and ER70 x 14 RSW Wide Oval Radial tyres. Probably serving as a highway patrol car, the Falcon 500 would have been a real ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ and historians estimate no more than 150 were supplied to the police.
Entering the next chapter of its life, the Falcon 500 underwent a comprehensive restoration to GT-HO ‘Phase 3’ specification, a project started by the previous owner. Stripped back to bare metal, the very straight body was repainted in Yellow Glow – a refreshing change from the more usual Track Red or Vermillion Fire – and the interior retrimmed in black with a GT dash and HO gauges housing a period-correct Super Fringe push button radio. The current Sydney owner bought the car approximately 15 years ago and completed the mechanical rebuild; the original 4V 351-cid V8 was mated to a four-speed close-ratio Top loader with long extension housing and a correct 3:5 ratio diff with 31 spline axles. The car retains the Police spec triple-core radiator, the brakes were overhauled with new lines and hoses approximate 2,000 miles ago and feature an HO proportioning valve. The car also comes with a replica Phase 3 rear sway bar and has Konni shock absorbers all round. Carefully maintained, the Ford has covered approximately 5,000 miles in the current owner’s hands and recent work has seen a fresh battery installed and the lower ball joints and control arms replaced a month ago.
Beautifully presented in Yellow Glow on five-spoke ‘Globe’ alloy wheels, the V8 was dyno tested in 2013 to give 351.9 horsepower.
Driven sparingly and never in the rain, the ‘HO’ replica is showing 47,306 miles on the odometer, this fabulous replica is available well below build cost and is ready for the new owner to simply jump behind the wheel and enjoy. A folder containing the Ford Verification Letter, old registration documents and photos will be supplied with the car.
